The art epoch of Gothic flourished between 1140 and 1500 AD. The term “gothic” was used as a pejorative to describe a rude and barbaric culture. 


Its main characteristics are: 

• ornaments
• slight and structured columns on a polygonal plan
• accentuation on the vertical (48 m high)
• ripped vaults
• ogival arches
• large windows

The cathedral is the symbol for the Christian religion and reflects at the same time the civic pride.
